Short-Term Pain

These patients may be prescribed an in-clinic therapy program that includes use of a Protonics Neuromuscular Device in conjunction with the clinic protocol.

PROTONICS EVALUATION SESSION

GOAL:  Evaluate to determine if patient is appropriate for Protonics Therapy Program.

Patients with certain indications and/or a positive response to Protonics Pre-Adjustment Therapy may be asked to attend a Protonics Evaluation Session that includes:

•  Pre / Post Gait and Balance Analysis
•  Pre / Post Hip Adduction, Leg Length Discrepancy and Straight Leg Raise
   Tests
•  Protonics Neuromuscular Repositioning (using the Protonics System)
•  Protonics Gait Training (using the Protonics System and Gait Trainer
   w/Starter Program)

PROTONICS THERAPY PROGRAM
Patients appropriate for Protonics Therapy will begin a Program that is separated into three-phases:

PHASE I

GOALS: Obtain a neutral pelvis through repositioning techniques.
Begin neuromuscular re-education for long-term carryover.

•  3 - 5 Sessions (first week)
•  In each session, the patient will:
    a.  Perform Protonics Neuromuscular Repositioning Techniques with the
         Protonics  System
    b.  Be retrained on gait using the Protonics System
    c.  Use the Protonics Gait Trainer Treadmill (Phase I Program) while wearing
         the Protonics System
•  Prior to beginning the last session of Phase I, the Hip Adduction, Leg Length
Discrepancy and Straight Leg Raise Tests will be administered and the data
   recorded

PHASE II

GOALS:    Obtain a neutral pelvis through repositioning techniques.
Maintain a neutral pelvic position through increased retraining.
Increase pelvic stability through Phase II Open-Chain Exercises.

•  4 - 6 Sessions (over two weeks)
•  In each session, the patient will:
    a.  Perform Protonics Neuromuscular Repositioning Techniques with the
         Protonics System
    b.  Use the Protonics Gait Trainer Treadmill (Phase II Program) while wearing
         the Protonics System
•  Open-Chain Exercises for Home
•  Once a week, during Phase II, the Hip Adduction, Leg Length Discrepancy and
Straight Leg Raise Tests will be administered and the data recorded

PHASE III

GOALS: Learn to maintain a neutral pelvis through activities that require more
              strength and stability.
Increase pelvic stability during weight bearing activities through Phase III
              Closed-Chain and Core Strengthening Exercises.

2 - 4 Sessions (over two weeks)
•  In each session, the patient will:
    a.  Perform Protonics Neuromuscular Repositioning Techniques with the
         Protonics System
    b.  Use the Protonics Gait Trainer Treadmill (Phase III Program) while wearing
         the Protonics System
•  Closed-Chain and Core Strengthening Exercises for Home

•  Once a week, during Phase III, the Hip Adduction, Leg Length Discrepency and
Straight Leg Raise Tests will be administered and the data recorded

PROTONICS PROGRESS EVALUATION

GOAL: To determine if additional Protonics Therapy is needed on a periodic basis.

6 weeks after the initial evaluation patients will go through a Protonics Progress Evaluation to determine if additional Protonics Therapy on a periodic basis is required, and at what frequency.During this session, patients will perform:

•  Gait and Balance Analysis Tests
•  Pre / Post Hip Adduction, Leg Length Discrepency and Straight Leg Raise
   Tests
•  Protonics Neuromuscular Repositioning (using the Protonics System)
•  Protonics Gait Training using the Protonics System and Gait Trainer Treadmill
   (Phase III Program)
